Aetna Life Insurance Unit Buys Tampa Bay, Fla., Area Outlet Mall.(Originated from St. Petersburg Times, Fla.)

CLEARWATER, Fla.--Jan. 25--A unit of Aetna Life Insurance Co. has acquired the Bay Area Outlet Mall, the lone survivor of a 1980s value- retailing mall building binge in the Tampa Bay area.
The new owners and leasing managers of the mall, located at one of the major crossroads in mid-Pinellas County, promise cosmetic changes to spruce up the property, an effort to bring in more national factory outlet chains and a food court.
But while the Pinellas outlet mall did not meet the same fate as two similar off-price outlet mall ventures that had to be converted to other uses in Pasco and Hillsborough counties, the Bay Area Outlet Mall has hardly been a roaring success.
