Wells Fargo Is Credited as a Pioneer of Electronic Banking.(Originated from The Orange County Register, Calif.)

Jan. 25--Wells Fargo Bank is credited with pioneering electronic banking for the computer literati. The question, given its pending merger with First Interstate Bank, is whether size will help it sell electronic commerce to the masses.

"The biggest issue impacting electronic banking is the customer's comfort level. Do they trust that you'll be around," said Robert Kugel, an analyst with Seidler Cos. "Both of these institutions pass that test on their own."

Other than trust, it is difficult to determine the value of size when it comes to new technologies, Kugel said.
