Apple Computer Hires Software Industry Executive as Vice President.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Jan. 26--Apple Computer Inc. has recruited Heidi Roizen, a high-profile software industry executive, to take the key post of vice president for developer relations -- the department in charge of persuading software developers to design products for Apple's Macintosh computers.

Roizen, the co-founder and chief executive of T/Maker Co. in Mountain View, officially starts her new job Feb. 5.

"After running T/Maker for 13 years, I was ready to do something new," Roizen said.

But why would Roizen, 37, join a business in the middle of a potentially fatal crisis, with plummeting earnings, imminent layoffs and the possibility of either a sale or new top management lurking just over the horizon?
