Ten Companies Make New Year's Resolutions.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Jan. 1--It seems companies, like people, don't want to get too specific about New Year's resolutions.

Who wants to be reminded in a few months that they had resolved to lose 40 pounds? Especially when they know they'll have the Mercury News checking in throughout 1996 to see how it's going?

But we had to ask -- 29 different companies, actually, and a non-profit foundation -- and these 10 responded.

That's not as bad a response rate as you might think, especially when you realize the American Medical Association says that nearly two-thirds of all Americans won't make any resolutions at all.

More than half of those who do make the big promises to themselves fail to fulfill them by the end of the year, the AMA says.
