Hyundai Selects Rhode Island Company to Coordinate Construction.(Originated from The Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore.)

Feb. 3--Hyundai announced Friday it has hired a Rhode Island firm to coordinate construction of its $1.3 billion computer chip factory in west Eugene.

Marshall Contractors Inc. will oversee an army of excavation and construction workers at Hyundai's 205-acre site this year, Hyundai administration manager S.M. Kim said.

The 350-employee firm, based in Rumford, R.I., will hire subcontractors and orchestrate development of Hyundai's initial 313,600-square-foot plant, Kim said.

Paul Brennan, Marshall's marketing director, said his company will try to hire local subcontractors. But the firm expects to go outside the area to find many of the skilled workers needed to build the factory, he said.
