IRS Officials Ask Filers to Use Toll-Free Number for Questions.(Originated from Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Ga.)

Feb. 16--With less than two months until taxes are due, IRS officials are saying don't worry, don't panic and DON'T go to their office with a bunch of complicated questions.
The IRS offices will answer general questions about the 1040A and 1040EZ form. But for help with other questions, the IRS wants you to call their automated telephone help line at 1-800-829-1040.
Never mind that a General Accounting Office study released in January found that only 8 percent of calls to the IRS telephone line were answered last year.
IRS officials in Atlanta say they fixed the problem with new call answering equipment so more calls will be answered. The best days to call are Wednesday and Thursday. Monday is the worst.
