GM Files Civil Suit Against Volkswagen in Industrial Espionage Case.(Originated from Detroit Free Press)

Mar. 9--It's a tale filled with espionage and document shredding, warriors and lying. But you won't find it between the covers of a spy novel.
Rather, this story is in a 100-page lawsuit filed by General Motors Corp. against J. Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua, a former top executive who used to be in charge of buying billions of dollars yearly in parts for GM cars and trucks. GM alleges that Lopez defected to Volkswagen in March 1993 with seven aides and thousands of pages of confidential documents on everything from new models to parts contracts.
Although GM and its German subsidiary Adam Opel AG have complained before, the suit contains astonishing details of how GM says Lopez and VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech worked together to pull it off.
