Motorola and Siemens Mum on Computer Chip Plant near Richmond, Va.(Originated from Daily Press, Newport News, Va.)

Mar. 9--Motorola Inc. and Siemens AG won't say whether Henrico County is one of two contenders for a $1.5 billion computer chip plant the two companies plan to build together.

A Richmond Times-Dispatch story on Friday reported that Henrico County is vying with a site near the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for the plant. Siemens last October disclosed plans to build a memory-chip plant with Motorola in the United States.

The published report, citing unidentified sources, said the companies were considering the Elko tract, a state-owned property east of the Richmond International Airport.

Jeff Gorin, a spokesman for Motorola's Semiconductor Products sector, on Friday declined to say where the companies were looking.
