COTTAGE GROVE, Ore.--Mar. 14--Hundreds of residents are flocking to the city's new Wal-Mart store. But they're not looking for bargains. They're looking for jobs.
As of Wednesday morning, approximately 1,300 people had completed application forms for the 160 or so jobs the giant retailer will fill at Lane County's first Wal-Mart, store manager Scott Devore said.
By the end of the week, Devore said, he's expecting to have received a total of up to 2,000 applications for the jobs, which typically pay $5.50 to $6 per hour.
Applicants began lining up at dawn Monday at the 80,000-square-foot store, which will open in May. Some said they're attracted by the promise of stable, full-time work that offers health insurance and other benefits.
