Mar. 19--New air service to Houston and Tampa, Fla., has helped boost air travel out of the Mobile Regional Airport by 16 percent over a year ago, said Bay Haas, executive director of the Mobile Airport Authority.

Mobile has also seen a significant decrease in air fares, allowing Mobile to beat nearby Pensacola, Fla., on most fares for the first time since tracking began three years ago, Haas said.

The number of people boarding planes out of Mobile in February was up 16 percent over February 1995, and the increase for the the first two months of 1996 was up 8 percent over last year, Haas said.
