Texas' Advanced Micro Devices Praised for Reducing Hazardous Waste.(Originated from Austin American-Statesman, Texas)

Mar. 26--Advanced Micro Devices' Austin semiconductor manufacturing operation was cited by state regulators Monday for its record of reducing the amount of hazardous waste it generated between 1991 and 1994.

The Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission named AMD's record as one of its success stories among 147 industries in the state that are part of its Clean Industries 2000 program to voluntarily reduce hazardous waste generation by the year 2000.

AMD cut its hazardous waste generation by 210,000 tons -- about 50 percent -- between 1992 and 1994.
