Massachusetts Lawmaker Proposes Gambling Regulatory Commission.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

May 24--State Sen. Michael W. Morrissey (D-Quincy), who co-chairs the Joint Committee on Government Regulations, yesterday proposed creating a strong gambling regulatory commission that would license casinos in New Bedford, Fall River and Hampden County and up to 1,000 slot machines at each of the state's four racetracks.

But his new counterpart from the House, Rep. Daniel E. Bosley (D-North Adams), said he was "skeptical" that any casino bill would be passed before the legislative session ends July 31.

In a draft bill circulated to committee members, Morrissey wrote in sops for two colleagues: Senate Majority Leader Thomas C. Norton (D-Fall River), whose district would be granted the riverboat casino he has coveted for several years; and Sen. James P....
