May 28--A handful of senior executives at Orange County companies discovered a pink slip was as good as a winning lottery ticket last year.
Timothy Aitken collected a one-time severance paycheck of $1.8 million when he left his job as vice chairman and president of Apria Healthcare Group in Costa Mesa last November.
When FHP International fired co-Chief Executive Officer Mark Hacken in March 1995, the the Fountain Valley health maintenance organization gave him a $611,713 kiss goodbye.
Christopher Staff made $556,787 during his tumultuous eight-month tenure as chief executive of Vans. The Orange shoe company, though, gave him an additional $409,899 in severance after his May 1995 departure.
