Clark Refining to Franchise Stores in Detroit.(Originated from Detroit Free Press)

May 31--Clark Refining & Marketing Inc. announced Thursday it will franchise 24 stores in the city of Detroit over the next two years through an agreement with the Atlas Oil Co. of Taylor.
Atlas Oil will open eight gasoline and convenience stores in Detroit under the Clark name in the next six months, and plans to convert an additional four outlets by the end of 1996. Atlas also will add 12 stores in 1997.
Two stores will be in the Empowerment Zone, and the rest of will be within the city limits, although the sites have not been finalized.
The contract with Atlas lets Clark add to its 170 retail locations in metro Detroit, said Karl Goodhouse, Clark's director of brand and distributor sales. "One of Clark's goals is to increase our presence in key...
