Iceland Seafood Plans to Close Harrisburg-Area Plant.(Originated from The Patriot-News, Harrisburg, Pa.)

Jun. 4--Iceland Seafood Corp. told employees yesterday that it intends to build a new plant outside of Pennsylvania and expects to close its Lower Allen Twp. facility sometime between June and September 1997.

The company disclosed its plans in a joint announcement with the union that represents the majority of Iceland Seafood's 300 workers. Representatives of United Steelworkers Local 6156 met four times with company officials to determine if an agreement could be reached to keep the local plant open.

"We made some offers, and of course they rejected the offers," said Wayne Rentzel, a USW staff representative. "We made some proposals that reduced their overall costs, and it just wasn't enough."
