Blue Shield Closes Last of 14 Central California Service Centers.(Originated from The Modesto Bee, Calif.)

Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, June, 1996

Jun. 5--Blue Shield of California is officially closing its Turlock office today, making it the last of 14 Central Valley service centers the company has closed in two years. The closings are part of the company's statewide plan to consolidate service centers. Since last year, Blue Shield reduced the Turlock work force from 200 to 60.

Blue Shield spokeswoman Molly Prescott said the company is donating $5,000 each to the Turlock Chamber of Commerce and Stanislaus County's Private Industry Council. The money is to help the organizations' efforts to attract other businesses and jobs to Stanislaus County. Blue Shield closed its Riverbank office earlier this year.
