Jun. 24--Riverside Community Hospital is considering a transition to for-profit status in a move that would give Tennessee-based Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp., the nation's largest for-profit hospital chain, a strategic foothold in the Inland Empire.
Riverside Community's board of directors is scheduled to sign a letter of intent Tuesday to explore a joint venture with Columbia, and the deal is expected to conclude before the end of the year. The move is designed to give Riverside Community access to Columbia's huge economies of scale but would result in the local facility converting to for-profit status.
