Apple Computer Names Vice President and Chief Technology Officer.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

Jul. 5--Ellen Hancock, the only high-ranking female technology executive at a large Silicon Valley company when she resigned from National Semiconductor Corp. in May, is back -- this time as executive vice president and chief technology officer of Apple Computer Inc.
It marks the second time in a year that Hancock has been hired by Gilbert F. Amelio, Apple's chairman and chief executive officer.
Amelio first recruited Hancock last September as one of three chief operating officers of National when he was running the Santa Clara chip company.
In February, Amelio took charge of Cupertino-based Apple. Hancock told National's board that she wanted to succeed Amelio, but the board picked an outsider, Brian Halla from LSI Logic Corp., and Hancock resigned...
