Explicit-Sex Sites on Internet Losing Market Share.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Jul. 4--Globs of 4,000 home computer users. NPD vice president Pamela Smith said the resulting data is a fairly accurate snapshot of computer use patterns throughout the United States.

Internet search engines like Lycos and Digital's Alta Vista were the most popular sites in April, the most recent month surveyed. Nearly two-thirds of all Internet users visited a search engine that month. Next on the list were the home pages of commercial online services, like America Online, Prodigy and CompuServe.

Interest in sexually explicit sites ranked far lower. These sites were visited by only 19.4 percent of Internet users. That's a sharp decline from January 1996, when 25.5 percent of users visited such sites.
