Microsoft and NBC Link Internet and Television to Challenge CNN.(Originated from The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville)

Jul. 16--In 22 million American homes last night, viewers could watch NBC's Tom Brokaw interviewing President Clinton live, asking some of the 52,000 proposed questions Brokaw had received via the Internet.

Brokaw got a new program on a new cable channel, MSNBC, launched with great fanfare yesterday.

A joint venture of NBC and software giant Microsoft, MSNBC is intended both as a challenge to the 16-year-old Cable News Network as a 24-hour news channel and as a way for Microsoft and NBC to prepare for a future in which the distinction between the personal computer and the television begins to disappear.

Among those who didn't have a chance to watch the new cable channel yesterday were subscribers to Continental Cablevision in Jacksonville....
