California-Based Pixar Reaps Financial Rewards of 'Toy Story' CD-ROM.(Originated from Contra Costa Times, Walnut Creek, Calif.)

RICHMOND, Calif.--Jul. 26--The "Toy Story" movie money is finally starting to roll in at Pixar Animation Studios, which said Thursday it intends to evolve into a new kind of digital studio.

Pixar, which used its computers to create the blockbuster Disney movie, earned $4.7 million, or 10 cents a share, on sales of $7.9 million, for the second quarter ended June 30. To be sure, both figures were slightly below those of a year ago. But the real money story may be where Pixar is getting its sales.

"We are delighted to announce that this is the first quarter in which Pixar had significant revenues from the movie "Toy Story" as well as from the "Toy Story" CD-ROM (software)," said Lawrence Levy, Pixar's chief financial officer.
