Boston Entrepreneur Plans to Open Natural Food Supermarkets.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Aug. 3--Leo Kahn, a local entrepreneur who made millions by selling everything from Cheerios to paper clips, now looks to make another fortune in tofu, granola and organic tomatoes.

A man whose career includes pivotal roles at Staples Inc. and Purity Supreme supermarkets, Kahn hopes to open what could be the largest natural foods supermarket in the region, a spokeswoman for Kahn confirmed.

Stop & Shop Cos. also confirmed yesterday that it had tentatively agreed to sell to Kahn a 41,000-square-foot Purity Supreme store in Bedford that Stop & Shop was required to sell as part of its 1995 acquisition of the Purity Supreme chain.

The tentative sale requires approval by federal regulators. Kahn has not been associated with Purity since 1985.
