Madison Gas & Electric Requests Removal of Wisconsin Energy's Counsel.(Originated from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

Aug. 15--Madison Gas & Electric Co. is asking state regulators to remove a prominent Milwaukee utilities lawyer from representing Wisconsin Energy Corp. in its proposed merger with Northern States Power Co.

MG&E, which opposes the merger, is seeking to remove Larry J. Martin from serving as lead counsel for Wisconsin Energy before the state Public Service Commission.

Martin represented MG&E and other utilities on statewide energy planning matters while also working for longtime client Wisconsin Energy in its bid to merge with Northern States, and that poses a conflict of interest, the Madison-based utility says.
