SAN JOSE, Calif.--Sep. 5--The (at)Home Network, a heavily ballyhooed venture that will provide high-speed Internet connections over cable television wires, has begun offering commercial service in Fremont, Calif.

A spokeswoman for Tele-Communications Inc., a major backer, said Wednesday that (at)Home is being made available to an area of "several thousand homes" at the outset and that further details would be announced today.

Phone sales representatives are quoting a price of $34.95 a month for unlimited access, plus $150 installation.
