Sep. 16--You're sitting on the left side of an airplane and the pilot mentions the Nile River on the right. No problem. You simply flick the channel selector for your TV screen and tune to a zoomed version of Africa's lifeline.

Such a scenario is not far away. Indeed, Broomfield-based Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. has a multipronged plan to market airborne cameras for entertainment, runway and security uses.

One possibility: a "video black box" to record the last minutes before an airplane crash.

Ball's Telecommunication Products Division is building airborne cameras at its Westminster facility at 9675 W. 108th Circle, and the cameras will be tested for toughness at Ball's facility at 1600 Commerce St. in Boulder.
