Raytheon Team Wins Air Traffic Control Contract.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Sep. 17--A team led by Raytheon Co. won a government contract yesterday to upgrade the nation's aging air traffic control system, a deal that could be worth $1 billion and will bring about 100 new engineering jobs to Massachusetts.
Already a leading supplier of airport radar systems, Raytheon won the job of replacing air traffic controllers' patchwork of 20-year-old equipment with new computers, displays and software at up to 371 commercial and military airports.
Boston's Logan Airport was selected as the first of 172 commercial airports to receive the new equipment, because its current systems are the most overtaxed, officials said yesterday.
Installation is scheduled to be completed at Logan by December 1998, with the entire project, dubbed STARS...
