California Fights to Keep Agricultural Promotion Programs.(Originated from The Sacramento Bee, Calif.)

Sep. 25--California has joined nine other states in a Justice Department suit asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a ruling that reportedly threatens nearly $1 billion in agricultural commodity promotion and research programs.

The programs the Justice Department said it wants to save include high profile advertising campaigns with catchy phrases like "Got Milk?", "It's the Cheese," and "Beef -- It's What's for Dinner." Such campaigns are backed by farmer-funded organizations that promote products on behalf of all commercial producers.
