FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Oct. 22--Strong performance in its reinsurance and life insurance and annuities businesses contributed to a 5 percent gain in Lincoln Nation Corp.'s third- quarter income from operations, which rose to $117.3 million or $1.12 per share.

The Fort Wayne-based insurance and financial services company reported earnings for the quarter fell to $119.3 million from $154.3 million for the same period last year.

Third-quarter revenue for the company rose slightly to $1.68 billion from $1.67 billion last year.

"Lincoln National's annuity business continued its steady upward earnings trend and our reinsurance companies did extremely well," said Ian M. Rolland, chairman and chief executive officer. "We had a solid third...
