Financier to Acquire Boston's Syratech Corp.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Oct. 24--Syratech Corp., an East Boston maker of silverware and gift items, said yesterday it agreed to be acquired by Boston financier Thomas H. Lee in a deal valued at $278 million to $300 million.

"Is this great?" asked Syratech chairman and chief executive Leonard Florence on the 10th anniversary of the founding of his company.

Florence, who said he was approached by Lee, said he will continue to run Syratech on a day-to-day basis.

In a statement, David V. Harkins, senior managing director of the Thomas H. Lee Co., said Lee and his company "look forward to working with the management of Syratech ... and we plan to support its continued growth in the future."
