GTE Responds to PrimeCo with Bargain Cellular Package in Virginia.(Originated from Daily Press, Newport News, Va.)

Nov. 15--PrimeCo Personal Communications on Wednesday introduced the digital phone service it says will revolutionize the wireless industry, and GTE Mobilnet responded with a bargain package for the cellular product it says won't fade away. PrimeCo, which rolled out its product in 16 cities nationwide, is the first to introduce digital phone service in Hampton Roads, joining established cellular providers GTE and 360 Communications in the region's wireless market.
AT&T is expected to be the next digital comer next year, and the companies will compete to provide mobile phone service, a product that PrimeCo says has a 14 to 18 percent -- and is rapidly growing -- market penetration in Hampton Roads.
