Ohio Residents Complain About Ameritech Phone Service.(Originated from Akron Beacon Journal, Ohio)

NORTON, Ohio--Dec. 14--When the Herwicks' phone service went out again, their visiting nurse, Teresa Reed, took it seriously. She had learned her lesson.

Last year, Albert Herwick, 92, took a bad fall. Phone service was out at the Herwick home in Norton and neither his 84-year-old wife, Mary, nor daughter, who lives with them, could call for an ambulance.

It was a whole day before Herwick could get to the hospital.

Then, on Wednesday, Herwick became ill. And again, he had no phone service.

"It goes out off and on all the time," Reed said.

After seeing the Herwicks on Wednesday, she returned to her home and called Ameritech to report the outage.
