Boeing Prepared to Market A Stretch 767.(Originated from The News Tribune, Tacoma, Wash.)
Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, January, 1997 by Griffin, Sean
TACOMA, Wash.--Jan. 7--Hoping to plug a gap in its product offerings, The Boeing Co. is offering a newer, larger 767 widebody for sale.
The new plane, tentatively known as the 767-400ERX, will hold 245 passengers in three classes. That puts it squarely between the 218-seat 767-300ER and the 305-seat 777-200.
It's almost identical in size to aging rivals, DC-10s and L-1011s -- most of which will be retired as passenger transports when a new noise-curb deadline arrives at the end of 1999.
No price has been announced for the new 767; existing models list for about $95 million.
Its main competitor will be the A-330-200, a shorter version of Airbus Industrie's popular A-330 -- which competes against Boeing's 777.
