Ford Turns to Johnson Controls Competitor for Auto Seats.(Originated from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)

Feb. 11--Ford Motor Co. is turning to Johnson Controls Inc.'s biggest competitor in the auto seat business as the automaker seeks to resume production of its hot-selling Expedition sport-utility vehicle.

Strikes by the United Auto Workers at two Johnson Controls plants that supply seats for Ford had forced the No. 2 automaker to close its only Expedition plant as well as a plant that makes Econoline vans.

Ford said Monday that Lear Corp. would assemble seats for the Expedition. Glendale-based Johnson Controls will supply parts to Lear.

"We are referring to this as a temporary action," Ford spokeswoman Francine Romine-McBride said. "We need to get about our business, which is making cars and satisfying our customers."
