Feb. 12--Intel Corp. said Tuesday it will offer stock options to each of its 50,000 employees worldwide, reflecting an escalating trend in Corporate America to tie workers' monetary perks to their company's stock performance.
The Santa Clara-based chip maker expanded its stock option program to all exempt and non-exempt employees bringing factory workers, secretaries, new college graduates, many part-timers and others into the program for the first time.
Locally, the program will affect 3,800 workers at Intel's Folsom site.
"We think stock options are a good motivator and helpful in recruiting and retaining the best employees," said Craig Barrett, Intel's chief operating officer during a telephone press conference Tuesday....
