Digital Equipment Corp. Boosts Support Services for Microsoft Technology.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Feb. 18--Digital Equipment Corp. is beefing up its support services for Microsoft technology to capitalize on the increasing number of businesses replacing their old mainframe computers with Microsoft's versatile Windows NT servers.

As part of its enhanced service offerings to be announced today, Digital is also nearly doubling its Microsoft certified support personnel to 2,500 by the end of this year to handle expected demand for Microsoft BackOffice solutions.

Some of those 1,200 additional specially trained engineers will be new hires, said Tim Cannon, director of the Microsoft alliance for Digital Worldwide Services. "We just don't have enough people," he said.
