Hackers Exploit Security Flaws in Internet Computers.(Originated from San Jose Mercury News, Calif.)

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Mar. 18--Like a machine gun that can spray numerous targets in seconds, hackers are using a security hole in computers that carry Internet discussion groups to attack numerous locations at once, a computer security organization warned Monday.
The barrage of attacks, first reported Friday, gave hackers control over the targeted computers, which carry "Usenet newsgroups" on which people discuss issues worldwide by posting and reading responses.
It was not immediately known how severe the attacks might be, but at least one Internet site reported that individual user passwords were stolen.
