Liggett Papers Show Company Sought More Potent Nicotine in Tobacco.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Mar. 26--Researchers for the tobacco industry agonized over whether to pursue a safer cigarette and thus admit the harmful effects of smoking, while at the same time worked to increase the nicotine kick in tobacco products to keep smokers coming back for more, according to internal documents from the Liggett Group.
The documents are the first to be released by Liggett as part of its historic settlement with 22 attorneys general who are suing the tobacco industry to recoup health costs. The state prosecutors are expected to use the documents in their cases against the four remaining tobacco companies that did not settle.
