Home Depot Wants to Keep Equal Employment Agency Out of Lawsuit.(Originated from The Atlanta Journal and Constitution)

ATLANTA--Apr. 17--Home Depot Inc. wants the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission kept out of a gender discrimination lawsuit against the retailer because it never got to talk with the agency before it tried to intervene.

In addition, the Atlanta-based home improvement retailer said in a filing with the U.S. District Court in New Orleans that the EEOC's involvement in the case would make the legal action unwieldy.

"We're going to show that the EEOC has not followed its own procedures, which is to allow us a chance to talk to them (and) broker a settlement," said Larry Smith, Home Depot's vice president of legal. "Their obligation is to avoid litigation."
