Use Tax Revenue Increases in Boulder, Colo.(Originated from Daily Camera, Boulder, Colo.)

Apr. 22--The city of Boulder's 1997 sales and use taxes through February increased 3.76 percent from the same period a year ago, with a substantial increase at the Downtown Mall.

Sales and use taxes for the Mall area increased 17.39 percent from the first two months of 1996. Kate Simson, the city's finance director, said use tax revenues jumped by 349.07 percent and retail sales tax revenues increased 6.72 percent.

Use taxes come from a combination of business and construction services.

"The increase in use tax is due to recent construction on the Pearl Street Mall," said Simson. "And these are year-to-date figures, so two months are not enough to indicate a trend."
