Jacksonville, Fla., Competes for Porsche Auto Plant.(Originated from The Florida Times-Union, Jacksonville)

May 2--Porsche AG may or may not steer its potential new U.S. auto plant to Florida, but if it does, Jacksonville officials say North Florida is the place to park it.

"If Florida is seriously considered, then Jacksonville is the most likely location because of the port, rail and highway system," said Mike Weinstein, interim executive director of the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission.

As reported in the Times-Union in March, Jacksonville and state business leaders called on Porsche officials at Stuttgart, Germany, headquarters to make a pitch for Florida.
