Enron California Wind Energy Unit to Supply Iowa's Largest Electric Utility.(Originated from The Bakersfield Californian)

TEHACHAPI, Calif.--May 16--The winds of success are blowing toward Zond Corp., the Kern County wind energy pioneer that sells its products and services around the world -- and Zond executives are smiling as a result.

Zond, with the help of its new, high-powered parent company Enron Corp.; and Zond's own new, top-of-the-line wind turbine, has landed the single largest purchase contract in the history of wind energy.

In March of this year, Zond agreed to build and operate a 150-turbine wind power plant in Iowa to supply MidAmerican Utility, Iowa's largest electric utility.

The plant will cost about $100 million, and generate 112.5 megawatts, enough electricity to supply about 50,000 homes.
