RIVERSIDE, Calif.--Jun. 8--Fleetwood Enterprises, which for years has been the nation's largest producer of recreational vehicles and manufactured homes, has been losing market share to aggressive competitors.
These competitors have been undercutting Riverside-based Fleetwood's prices in both the manufactured housing and RV industries.
They have taken advantage of Fleetwood's delay in equipping its motorhomes with slideouts -- living, dining, and bedroom areas with expandable space.
And they have moved into housing markets, particularly in Texas and the Southeast, where Fleetwood's manufacturing capabilities have not kept pace with market demand.
