Virginia's Heilig-Meyers Tops Nation in Home Furnishing Sales.(Originated from Richmond Times-Dispatch, Va.)

Jun. 16--Heilig-Meyers Co. finally made the top of the list.
For the past couple of years, the Richmond-based retailer had said it was the country's No. 1 home furnishings chain based on overall sales.
Yet, during that period, the country's leading furniture industry publication put Heilig-Meyers second in its annual rankings.
Now that publication, Furniture/Today based in High Point, N.C., has ranked Heilig-Meyers in the top spot. The survey of the country's top 100 furniture retailers was released two weeks ago.
"It pleases us to finally have the top ranking from the industry," company spokesman Barry Brockwell said. "But, as we have said before, we felt we have been in that position already."
