Passenger Volume Clips Delta Workers''Free-Flier' Perk.(Originated from The Atlanta Journal and Constitution)

ATLANTA--Jun. 23--Free travel is a prized perk for airline workers, but it's hard to use if paying customers are hogging all the good seats.

Case in point: Delta Air Lines issued a cautionary message to employees Friday, warning that about 100 colleagues were stacked up at the gate in Los Angeles trying to snare unsold seats to Hawaii.

"We've had some (employee) passengers with us for two days, and it's doubtful they'll get out this weekend," Los Angeles passenger service manager Gary Corn said.

The logjam illustrates an annoying fact of life for workers at Atlanta-based Delta and other major carriers. Thanks to the industry's rebound of the past two years, big airlines are filling more than 70 percent of their seats on average....
