Court Says Detroit Newspapers Acted Unfairly, Must Reinstate Strikers.(Originated from Detroit Free Press)

Jun. 21--Newspaper executives committed unfair labor practices that caused and prolonged the 19-month strike against Detroit's daily newspapers, a federal administrative law judge ruled Friday.
Judge Thomas Wilks, in a 113-page opinion, ordered the papers to "reinstate all unfair labor practice strikers to their former positions of employment, displacing if necessary any replacement employees hired."
The newspapers, maintaining that they bargained in good faith, vowed to appeal Wilks' ruling to the full National Labor Relations Board. Meanwhile, they will continue to call back former strikers as openings occur, as they have since six unions ended their strike in February.
