Office Depot Planning New Store Near Office Max in Lexington, Ky.(Originated from Lexington Herald-Leader, Ky.)

Aug. 19--An price war over office supplies could be in Lexington's future.

A red sign that says "Office Depot coming soon" is hanging on the former Hills department store building in South Park shopping center.

That's within spitting distance of competitor Office Max at 103 East Reynolds Road in Crossroads Plaza.

"We're always price competitive," said Mike Weisbarth, spokesman for Office Max.

An Office Depot corporate spokesman said he could not confirm that a new store will open at South Park. Florida-based Office Depot does not announce new stores until a month before they open, spokesman Gary Schweihart said.

That's because "it tells our competition where we are going."
