Blue Cross of New Hampshire to Buy Matthew Thornton.(Originated from The Boston Globe)

Sep. 3--Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Hampshire has agreed to pay $46.5 million for Matthew Thornton Health Plan, a deal that would combine New Hampshire's two biggest nonprofit health plans.
Filed last Friday with New Hampshire insurance regulators, the sales agreement ends speculation about which health care organization Matthew Thornton would choose as a partner from among the handful that had expressed interest.
The announcement comes a month after Harvard Pilgrim Health Care called off plans to acquire the rapidly growing Matthew Thornton. The health plan said it was also in discussions with Tufts Health Plan and another small health care provider.
