Barnett Banks in Florida Show No Sign of Merger.(Originated from St. Petersburg Times, Fla.)

Sep. 3--From the look and sound of things Tuesday, you'd never know Barnett Banks Inc. was sold last Friday.

Radio and television ads touting Barnett products aired as if nothing had changed. And there were no signs in Barnett branches saying anything about the bank being sold to NationsBank Corp.

In fact, a "business as usual" attitude was the norm throughout Barnett on Tuesday. The downside for its customers: Those with questions about what the merger means to them found little in the way of answers.

Often, when there is a major corporate merger, the acquirer takes steps to reassure customers of the company being bought. Not so in this case. On Tuesday, there were no special ads designed to reassure Barnett customers. No special...
