Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News, September, 1997 by Kimberlin, Joanne

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.--Sep. 9--Hampton, Va., will get its Home Depot soon.

Company spokesman Don Harrison confirmed Monday that the company had "taken a piece of property off the real estate market."

That parcel is a 22-acre tract on Armistead Avenue, just off Interstate 64.

Harrison said construction of the store now hinged on getting the proper permits from the city.

The opening probably will coincide with the opening of the proposed Newport News store, said Kathy Grook, Hampton's retail development manager.
