Boulder, Colo.-Based Exabyte Imposes Hiring Freeze.(Originated from Daily Camera, Boulder, Colo.)

Sep. 11--Boulder-based Exabyte Corp. has imposed a hiring freeze and formed a task force to cut costs and increase revenue, according to an internal letter to company employees.
"To be successful we must significantly reduce our costs -- both product costs and operating costs expenses," said the letter from Bill Marriner, president and chief executive officer.
Exabyte has about 1,200 workers in Boulder County and is the county's fifth-largest private employer. The company makes computer data storage equipment, including Mammoth brand 8 mm tape drives, which face increasing competition.
